‘More than food: Faith in Foodbanks’ - Trussell Trust
Our first prayer breakfast on Monday 3rd October was with Trussell Trust looking at the issue of Foodbanks. Our speakers were Anne Danks Regional Manager of the Trussell Trust. She was joined Carole Sparkes from Nuneaton Foodbank. The Nuneaton Foodbank was launched in April 2013. In its first year the charity fed a huge 4,592 people, of which 1,587 were local children.
We were also joined by John Glen MP, PPS to the Chancellor of the Exchequer and CCF Parliamentary Chairman. John is Conservative MP for Salisbury and Parliamentary Private Secretary to Rt. Hon. Philip Hammond MP, Chancellor of the Exchequer.
The Trussell Trust’s 400-strong network of foodbanks provides a minimum of three days’ emergency food and support to people experiencing crisis in the UK. In 2015/16, we gave 1,109,309 three day emergency food supplies to people in crisis.
They recognise that hunger is about More Than Food, which is why we’re working with foodbanks to provide a range of new services like money advice and Fuel Banks, helping people to break the cycle of poverty.
They are working on developing many other services to enable foodbanks to give holistic care and support for members of their community.
