Here are the CCF’s friends and supporters who will be standing in the local elections tomorrow:
Dan Boucher is a prospective Welsh Conservatives Assembly Member for South Wales West. In the 2011 Assembly Elections he was a Conservative candidate for Swansea East, moving from fourth to second place. He also ran as a Conservative candidate in the Welsh Region in the elections to the European Parliament in 2014. Dan has been Director of Public Affairs for Christian Action Research & Education (CARE) since 2006. As part of the Public Policy team analysing issues, planning and developing short and long term campaign strategies and building key relationships. Dan manages a team that engages with Westminster, the Northern Ireland Assembly Scottish Parliament, Welsh Assembly and European Parliament. He has a PhD in international relations, is married to Emma and they are both the proud parents of Sam. They live in Morriston in Swansea. Beyond politics, Dan enjoys Welsh history, snorkelling and cinema.
Graeme Brooks is the Conservative candidate for Greenock & Inverclyde County Constituencyin the Scottish Parliament. Graeme stood for the 2011 election to Scottish Parliament in, and also in the Inverclyde Council elections in 2007 and 2012. He has been a party member and activist since 2005 and has campaigned in every set of elections and by-election since 2006. In 2009 he became Chairman of Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Association. He led the Better Together campaign in Inverclyde for the Conservatives, along with Labour and Liberal Democrats representatives. Graeme is actively involved with youth work through British Youth for Christ and was their Scotland Director from 2007-2014. He helped to found the Solas Festival – a space for all to explore arts, faith and justice within Scotland’s vibrant cultural life. He took chair of the company and charity in 2010 and helped deliver three successful festivals. He was also chair of the Mission Programme Team of More Than Gold 2014, which aimed to enable churches to work together and serve their communities in Glasgow and beyond through social action after the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Murdo Fraser is standing for re-election to the Scottish Parliament representing the Perthshire North seat. He was the Member of Scottish Parliament for Mid Scotland and Fife between 2001 and 2016, and was Deputy Leader of the Scottish Conservatives from 2005 to 2011. He has previously been Scottish Conservative Spokesman on Health, Education, and Enterprise & Lifelong Learning. As an MSP he has convened the Parliament’s Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee and has held the roles of co-convenor of the Cross-Party Groups ‘Scottish Economy’, ‘Scottish Health Inequalities’ and ‘Pakistan’ and serves as Patron of the Scottish Asian Pakistani Foundation. Murdo is a patron of the CCF and a member of the Scotland-Malawi Partnership. Murdo lives with his wife and two children in Perthshire. Murdo’s interests outside politics include hillwalking (he has climbed Kilimanjaro and more than half of Scotland’s 284 Munros), football, classic cars, travel (especially Africa), and Scottish history.
George Jabbour is the Conservative candidate for the target seat of Bridgend where he is facing the First Minister of Wales, Carwyn Jones. He also stood as a candidate in Scotland in the 2015 General Election. George currently lives in the constituency, but he was born in Syria to a Christian family. He moved to the UK in 2004 at the age of 22. Having obtained a degree in civil engineering from Damascus University, George won a scholarship that enabled him to come to London to study for a postgraduate degree. Following his graduation, George was employed by Goldman Sachs and then started a small business. He was named as one of the 40 under 40 rising stars in investment banking in Britain in 2012.At our April Prayers for the Nations and Westminster Briefing events, George spoke passionately about his campaigning experience in Wales and his faith convictions in political involvement.
Darren Millar is standing for re-election the Welsh Assembly in Clwyd West. Darren was first elected the Assembly in 2007. In 2011 He was re-elected with a significantly increased majority and a larger share of the vote than any candidate in the history of the Clwyd West constituency. Darren serves on the opposition front bench as Shadow Minister for Health and Older People. He chaired the Assembly's influential Public Accounts Committee and sits as a member of the Health and Social Care Committee. In 2000/2001, Millar became the youngest serving Mayor in Wales, a record which he understands is as yet unbroken, when he served the township of Towyn and Kinmel Bay. Prior to his election to the Assembly in 2007, He has also worked as North West Regional Manager for Open Doors, an international charity serving persecuted Christians and churches worldwide. Having been brought up in Towyn, Darren now lives in Kinmel Bay with his wife Rebekah and two children, Mary and Toby. He enjoys reading and history, and attends North Coast Church, Towyn.
Alex Stewart-Clark is Holyrood candidate for the Conservatives in the Glenrothes & Mid Fife Constituency. He fought in the May 7th 2015 Westminster general election where the vote marginally increased for the SCU. Alex grew up on a 400-acre arable farm just north of Kirkliston, on land his family has farmed for the past five generations. Understanding the impact of successful businesses in the local community, and the slow pace of land and property, Alex takes an active role in community leadership. He is trustee of Passion Trust, an organisation that supports the resurgence of Passion Plays in the UK, and is also a church pastor. Alex is a long-standing supporter of the CCF and his small group’s policy work on Family Test on our IMPACT Course resulted in the Government adopting the policy in 2014.
Evelina Vulpe is the Conservative candidate to Thurrock Council in the Grays Riverside ward. She has
previously worked in David Burrowes's parliamentary and constituency offices in the run up to the 2015 election. She was part of Conservative Future in Enfield Southgate as Deputy Chair of Membership. As our Events Manager, she organises regular events such as Prayers for the Nations and Westminster Briefing. She is also planning our 2016 Party Conference events in Birmingham. Evelina finished her BA in History at the University of Westminster and is currently working towards an MSc in the History of International Relations at the London School of Economics. She is a member of the London Evangelical Church and contributes through interpreting, worship and assisting with young children. She teaches at Sunday school of her church and has volunteered in Moldova and Germany teaching children English.
