Venue: Chapel of St Mary Undercroft, Houses of Parliament, SW1A 0AA
PLEASE NOTE: REGISTRATION FOR PRAYERS FOR THE NATION CLOSES ON 15 OCTOBER
Each month the CCF hosts Prayers for the Nation – a prayer service in the Chapel of St Mary Undercroft bringing together Parliamentarians, Charity and Church leaders to focus on and pray about an issue, a campaign or a legislation that they are championing. Parliamentarians who attended and spoke at recent Prayers for the Nation services include the Rt Hon Alistair Burt MP, Harriett Baldwin MP, Fiona Bruce MP, Jeremy Lefroy MP and Baroness Elizabeth Berridge.
This month our speaker will be Stuart Rivers is CEO of international Christian maritime charity Sailors’ Society, which has a network of chaplains supporting seafarers and their families in need in 30 countries around the world. In 2018, the charity celebrates 200 years since seafarer-turned-pastor George Charles Smith first began the mission to support destitute seafarers in London, on a floating chapel known as the Ark. Sailors’ Society has supported seafarers through two world wars, global depressions, natural and man-made disasters and huge changes in technology and the shipping industry. Stuart took the helm in 2013, following successful careers in the non-profit and corporate sectors. He previously worked in the commercial technology sector with BT and Ericsson before deciding to pursue his vocation in full-time ministry with The Salvation Army and later heading up Bible Society’s Enterprise arm. Stuart has brought new life to Sailors’ Society with a dynamic global programme, doubling the number of ports served, expanding its work in underprivileged seafaring communities and transforming the organisation from an old institution into a thriving movement. The charity uniquely describes itself as a 200-year-old start-up: with a combination of experience and innovation, legacy and agility which is having a powerful impact on the lives of the often-overlooked men and women who bring us the goods we rely on every day.
Having just returned for Party Conference, Gareth Wallace Executive Director of The CCF will be sharing highlights from this year’s conference. The CCF hosted seven very successful events at this year’s Party Conference and we were privileged to have many high profile speakers and ministers share at our events.
